This is going to be my very first winter in my new house. I used to live in an apartment so I didn’t have to pay attention to lawn care, but now that I have my own lawn, I’d like to make it look good if I can!

My lawn is looking a bit tired right now, I think it’s ready to hibernate… Do you have any fall lawn care tips for me?

Congratulations on your new house! Are you expecting very cold winters and a lot of snow in your area?

    Thank you!

Usually we have cold weather and good snowfalls, yeah.

In the fall, grass is absorbing as much moisture and nutrients as it can to get ready for the winter, so if you can take good care of your lawn during this time, it should look better and healthier in the spring!

It’s important to keep mowing it, and to water it if it needs water. It’s also very important to rake leaves as quickly as possible. If you wait too long and your lawn gets covered in a thick layer of leaves, the grass could suffocate and get sick.

Oh, I didn’t know that! I don’t have a rake, but I’ll be sure to get one next time I get to the store.

A few years ago, I started using my lawnmower to pick up those dead leaves, instead of raking them! There’s a collection bag I can attach to my lawnmower, so it picks up the leaves in no time and it’s easy to get rid of them.

I don’t bother with lawn care anymore, I have Weed Man Suwanee taking care of my lawn for me and it looks great at last! I was always struggling and even with all my efforts my lawn was always sick, yellow and dried out.

I think autumn is the right time to fertilize your lawn. It will help your grass develop deep and strong roots, and when the spring comes it will have all the nutrients it needs to grow lush and healthy!

If you never used lawn fertilizer before, you could ask for some advice at the store so they’ll help you find the right product, and they’ll tell you how you should apply it.

Ok, thank you. I’ll add fertilizer to my shopping list!

I have hired my local Weed Man too, they do a really good job! In the fall, they fertilize and aerate my lawn, and if there are any bald spots they will fix them.

Of course I could do that stuff myself, but I’m feeling too lazy for it most of the time, and since these guys are doing such a good job I fully trust them and I don’t get involved!

What is the purpose of aerating your lawn? And how do you do it, you make holes in your lawn?

  • at

You mentioned that your lawn looks tired, so maybe it could be a good idea to aerate it, and see if it helps. When the soil gets too compacted, it becomes difficult for the grass to grow healthy. When you aerate your lawn, you punch holes in your lawn, or remove little plugs of soil with a machine, and it’s easier for water and air to reach the roots of the grass.

That’s it! And I’ve heard it was better to use a machine that removes plugs of soil, because if you just poke holes in the soil it’s not as effective.

Ok, that’s good to know. Thank you!
