I am going to use a mortgage broker, but how do I use his or her services most effectively? Simply put, I want this relationship to be as beneficial to me as possible.

You need to be as honest and as up front as possible with your broker. This will help your broker understand you and your situation better.
By being open and honest, your mortgage broker can help you get a mortgage that’s right for you. Otherwise, you may end up struggling. Why go through that, right?
Some people do not realise the importance of this. They do not exactly tell the truth and then wonder why they cannot handle it.

Another thing about misrepresenting information is that you may be guilty of committing mortgage fraud. If this is found out later, you could be in trouble.
You need to play your part with your mortgage broker. By helping them with the correct information, they can give you the best help in return.

After you get your broker and all is said and done, you should keep in touch with your broker. Try not to end this relationship. At this point, you do not realize how helpful your broker can be, even later.
There are times when you need to maintain this relationship. Sometimes too, your broker may be the one who gets in touch with you.
Even after everything has settled, send them the occasional email or card, just to maintain this relationship. One day, you may need them again. If you kept in touch, they will remember you easily.

Did you know that these brokers have lots of good contacts, contacts that could be useful for you? For example, your home may need certain repairs. You can contact your broker to ask them to make recommendations.
It is always better to use someone that comes recommended rather than someone you picked from a phone book or an ad on a lamp post.

Take it from me – some of these contractors may be a disaster waiting to happen. You have no idea if they are licensed or legitimate. It could prove costly and your home may be damaged.
If you kept in touch, you can comfortably ask them for advice. Besides, one day, a few years down the road, you may need to use a broker again. At least you can use someone that you share a history with.
By the way, have you seen someone about a mortgage yet? You should check out Windsor Family Credit Union, someone I used myself. They are one of the biggest credit unions in Ontario. Just keep this in mind. I hope you will find this helpful.

If you have found a good broker that you are happy with, you can always refer them to someone else. Your broker will appreciate this and they will be happy to help you in the future as well.
Your friends will be happy to work with a good broker. One day, if you need your broker’s help, they will be willing to do whatever it takes to help you because you helped them too.
